case studies
One of the most enjoyable things about running debbidoo is the variety the workload provides. Today we might be developing a brand for an online retailer; tomorrow we could be building a website for a Caribbean hotel. No two jobs are the same, and they're all interesting to work on.
The following case studies outline some of the projects we've worked on with our clients.
case study: marketing research, analysis and planning
Shellie Thomson of Little Miss Princess Parties - a provider of children's party entertainment in Leeds - wanted to know how to manage her own marketing, reach her target audience without going over budget, and stay one step ahead of the competition.
We spent a lot of time talking to Shellie to find out about the marketing activities she was already undertaking, and looked at how Shellie's competitors were promoting their businesses. We asked about the direction Shellie wanted to take with her business, and analysed her website as well as those of her competitors.
After a lot of research and planning, we handed over an in-depth report explaining ways in which Shellie could promote her business on a small budget, create partnerships with other companies in the region whose products and services complimented her own, and generally stay on top of her day-to-day marketing tasks. Alongside the report, we provided a 'marketing action plan' to help Shellie use her time and marketing budget to the best effect.
Shellie says: "The report Debs wrote for me was fantastic - it gave me all sorts of ideas I wouldn't have thought of myself. And the marketing action plan gave me a clear idea of the sort of marketing tasks I should be doing, and how to do them."
case study: brand development
We'd already worked with SymWorks Ltd on a variety of brand championing and internet marketing projects to promote their unusual gifts brand - ShinyShack - and some of their other online retail brands including 101Gear and Musgrove & Bright. So when SymWorks' Director Tamer Shafik asked debbidoo to help develop the brand for a planned new online store, we were really excited and couldn't wait to get stuck in.
Tamer's brief was very clear: the brand needed a human name with wide appeal, something accessible yet edgy, a bit retro but thoroughly modern. Tamer already had an idea of how he wanted the brand visuals to look - and a fantastic graphic designer to bring it all together - but the name needed to be just right.
debbidoo worked closely with the SymWorks team to create a shortlist of viable brand names with domain availability. The SymWorks team took a vote on the shortlisted names, and voted for their favourite - Betty Wilde - which, as luck would have it, was our favourite too.
Tamer said: "We're delighted with the brand name Debs thought up for us. 'Betty Wilde' is the perfect name for our cookware store, and as always, Debs did a really thorough job that saved us heaps of time."
case study: website design and copywriting
When Dayal Kirpalani of Property Renovators Ltd asked debbidoo to design and copywrite a website for his South London brickworks and groundworks firm, he wasn't entirely convinced a middle-aged mum with little experience of the building industry would have the know-how to write website copy that would adequately describe and sell his company's services.
We worked very closely together on the project, with Dayal providing an excellent brief (though he will modestly tell you otherwise) which gave us exactly the sort of information we needed for the copywriting side of the project and a clear vision of how Dayal wanted the website to look.
Dayal was so pleased with the results, within weeks he hired debbidoo again - this time to build and copywrite a second site, using the same design, promoting the company's aerial photo surveys service.
Dayal said: "Have to admit that I didn't think you would do such a great job from the short discussions we had. The copy you wrote was just right (you seem to know my business better than I do)."
