Making sense of the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008A couple of issues ago, we reported on the Office of Fair Trading's new Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008. In our article, we said that under the Regulations businesses may be prevented from posing as customers online. We recently called the OFT to see if they could clarify the implications of the Regulation on marketers and businesses wishing to promote products using online forums, blogs and social bookmarking sites. Unfortunately, they weren't very helpful... so we blogged about it. Find out more: http://debbidoo.wordpress.com. Social networking for businessIf you're still not sure how (and indeed, if) social networking fits into your marketing strategy, here are a couple of things that might help you decide. ROCSearch recently published an excellent in-depth report into the benefits social networking can have for businesses. The report is truly fascinating and is really worth a read. To get a copy, visit the ROCSearch website and fill in the form - or if you don't want to hand over your details, please send us an email and we'll send you a copy of the report (ROCSearch have said they're quite happy for us to share the report, so it's perfectly legit). There are also some excellent social networking conferences being held in the next couple of months by Fruitful Seminars, an events company recently formed by eminent social media expert Suw Charman. If you'd like to know more, visit chinwag as we've blogged about these seminars to help spread the word. Busy busy busy...We're pleased to report that we're flat out with work at the moment - hooray! We're currently working on an ongoing brand championing project for SymWorks Ltd, who own a number of e-commerce sites including ShinyShack, 101gear and Musgrove & Bright. With our associates Marchnata AQUA Marketing Ltd we're working on a number of local projects, including a marketing commun-ications package for a local ironworks and an e-marketing project to promote golf in North Wales. And we've also recently started working with a new client, Candyware UK Ltd, who sell gorgeous candy jewellery. You can find out more at our brand new clients page. chinwagSince the last issue of yakety yak, we've been blogging about pirates. Again. We've found loads more piratey goodies on t'interweb, including some sea shanties by Johnny Depp, no less - if you find any other good pirate products, please leave a comment. |

A Blog Named DesireWe've recently started a second blog, "A Blog Named Desire", which we're having a lot of fun with. It's a blog about wanting things, and we've been using it whenever we fancy a bar of chocolate, a holiday or an escape from walking the dog. We've also found it useful for promoting some of our clients' products... and no doubt the OFT would be pleased to know that the 'about' page is quite open about this fact!. Going Solo, Leeds 08If you're a freelancer or running a small business, you may well find the Going Solo conference extremely useful.
